Print File Setup

Set up design files that print sharp, trim cleanly, and keep their colors, in any design tool.

Get four things right

Most print problems come from four settings. Check them before you design, and again before you export.

• Resolution. Give every image enough pixels for its printed size, usually 300 DPI. See What is DPI?
• Bleed and safe area. Run edge-to-edge artwork past the trim line, and keep text away from it. See What is bleed?
• Color. Screens show RGB and presses print CMYK, so convert with the right ICC profile. See What are color modes?
