A5 Paper Size
A5 measures 148 × 210 mm (5.83 × 8.27 inches) as defined by ISO 216. Exactly half the area of A4, A5 is one of the most versatile sizes in print — used for booklets, flyers, notebooks, planners, and greeting cards. Two A5 pages print on a single A4 sheet, making it economical for short-run and in-house printing.

A5 with Bleed
When preparing files for commercial printing, add bleed — extra design area beyond the trim edge that gets cut off during finishing. The standard bleed for ISO sizes is 3 mm per side.
| Measurement | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|
| With bleed (mm) | 154 | 216 |
| With bleed (inches) | 6.06 | 8.50 |
| Pixels at 300 DPI (with bleed) | 1819 | 2551 |
Size Comparison
A5 is half of A4 and twice the size of A6. It is close to the US Half Letter size (5.5 × 8.5 inches), though slightly taller and narrower. A5 is comparable in size to a typical paperback novel.
Common Uses
- Booklets and saddle-stitched publications
- Flyers and promotional handouts
- Notebooks, planners, and journals
- Greeting cards and invitations
- Small catalogs and program guides
Design Tips
- Two A5 pages impose perfectly on one A4 sheet, making A5 ideal for booklets using saddle-stitch binding.
- At 300 DPI (1748 × 2480 px), A5 files are very lightweight — design and iteration are fast.
- For booklets, remember that the inner (gutter) margin needs extra space for the binding. Add at least 3-5 mm to the spine side.
- A5 is a popular invitation and greeting card format. For folded cards, design on A4 and fold in half to A5.
Setting Up A5 Files
Set up your A5 document at 148 × 210 mm in your preferred design tool. Adobe InDesign and Illustrator include A5 as a standard preset, and most word processors support it as well. For booklet printing, design on A4 with crop marks at the A5 fold. In Figma, the Print for Figma plugin includes a built-in A5 preset with bleed, crop marks, and CMYK export — useful for designing booklets, flyers, and invitations collaboratively.
