Design Tips

  • Full-page flyers work best for detailed information — event schedules, menus, or product lists. Half-page flyers are better for quick, single-message promotions.
  • Use bold headlines readable from arm's length. For posted flyers, the headline should be legible from at least 4–5 feet away.
  • If mailing flyers, design one side as a self-mailer with address panel and postage area per postal regulations.
  • Half-letter flyers can be printed two-up on a single Letter sheet, reducing per-unit printing costs.
  • For bleed setup and DPI guidelines, see our detailed guides.

How to Design a Flyer

Flyers can be designed in almost any design tool — Adobe InDesign and Illustrator are professional staples, while Canva and Microsoft Word work for simpler layouts. Set your document to the target size (usually Letter or A4 for full-page flyers), add bleed if the design extends to the edge, and export as a high-resolution PDF.

If you want a collaborative, browser-based workflow, Figma with the Print for Figma plugin is an excellent option. It includes built-in presets for Letter and A4 — the two most common flyer sizes — and handles bleed setup, image resolution checking, and CMYK export so your flyers come out print-ready.
